The majority of burglaries are residential. Most residential
burglaries occur during the day and most nonresidential burglaries
occur at night. Burglaries totaled an estimated $3.3 billion for
an average loss per burglary of $1,545. Residential burglaries
averaged $1,381 and nonresidential burglaries averaged $1,615 in 2001.
